The latest ISIUM conversation – Measuring antimicrobial use to drive better decisions: Reflections from the Global Antimicrobial Surveillance System (GLASS) – is now available.

Held in March 2026, this conversation introduced the WHO Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS) platform and explained how countries use it to report national antimicrobial use data.

It outlined the core methodology, including aggregated data sources, ATC/DDD system, key metrics and indicators (e.g. AWaRe) and global targets. The discussion also highlighted how national GLASS-AMU data are used to align stewardship priorities and to identify areas where targeted interventions can have the greatest impact.

Representatives from three countries (Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Armenia) shared their experiences across the data continuum—from establishing the operational systems needed for reliable data collection to using national AMU data to inform stewardship and guide policy action.
