Workshops

In addition to the main conference program, delegates may register for one or both of the workshops below. Workshops are optional and require a separate fee, with rates available for high-, middle-, and low-income countries.

Workshop 1: How do we strengthen measurement of policies to promote quality use of medicines (study design and indicators)?

Facilitator: Kathleen Holloway

Thursday 19 November, 9:00am–10:15am

Much work has already been done on measuring medicines use alone, often showing very poor-quality use but without being able to improve quality use in a sustainable way. The challenge of the future is to measure implementation of policies that we know are associated with better quality use to take action to improve policy implementation and hence quality use. The objectives of the workshop are:

  1. Report on policy implementation and medicines use in the countries of workshop participants to identify health-system and policy strengths and weaknesses.
  2. Explore methodological difficulties (study design and indicators) in measuring policy implementation and medicines use.
  3. Make recommendations (for ISIUM and countries) on how to strengthen measurement of policy implementation and use to take action to promote quality use of medicines.

Workshop 2: AI and medicines information

Facilitator: Andre Queiroz De Andrade

Thursday 19 November, 10:45am–12:30pm

This workshop explores the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) to support clinical pharmacy activities, including literature summarization, medication reviews, and clinical information retrieval. Participants will examine both the strengths and limitations of current LLM technologies and discuss approaches to improving reliability through integration with trusted data sources and custom AI workflows. Through practical examples and case studies, the session highlights how participants can evaluate, adopt, and responsibly use AI tools to enhance evidence-based practice and promote quality use of medicines.
