The International Society to Improve Use of Medicines (ISIUM) is pleased to announce its next conference will be held in Kathmandu, Nepal from 19 to 21 November 2026, following on from the last ISIUM Conference, which was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand on 28 to 30 October 2023. The 2026 conference will focus on strategies to improve quality use of medicine, providing opportunity for you to:
- present your work to improve use of medicines,
- discuss new ideas with your colleagues and meet other people working in the field
- learn from experts in the field.
Objectives
ISIUM will be convening participants and key stakeholders across the world, in the 2026 ISIUM conference with the aim to:
- Share experience on progress and challenges faced by countries in improving the quality use of medicines: Where are we?
- Discuss priority areas and ways of working together to advance national efforts in improving the use of medicines: How can we move forward?
- Consider potential actions (recommendations) on how ISIUM together with key partners can continue to raise awareness and promote the practice of the best use of medicines: Where do we go?

- Digital technology for improving use of medicines.
- Methodologies to investigate quality use of medicines.
- Implementation of policies to improve the use of medicines.
Key strategies to be explored include:
- promoting quality use of medicines through evidence-based guidelines,
- enhancing patient education and adherence,
- utilising digital technology for better medication management by patients and within systems,
- addressing affordability concerns through pricing strategies,
- fostering global collaborations to develop new treatments and improving access to medicines,
- strengthening methodological considerations to monitor quality use of medicines,
- prioritising research on emerging diseases and treatment resistance,
- working in evolving healthcare landscapes like telehealth and personalised medicine.
Expected outcomes
- Increase awareness and understanding: of the importance of quality use of medicines.
- Take stock: Participants develop a shared understanding of the key issues and priorities for generating evidence on and improving the use of medicines.
- Actionable strategies and solutions: Discussions provide participants with practical insights and actionable strategies for implementing change, by using specific policy and other tools, implementation practices, and fostering innovation to tackle complex issues of inappropriate medicines use.
